Will the Economic Global Crisis affect India in a big way?
Interview with Chitra Vasudevan
Living in a big city means that you come into contact with several germs and bacteria, which are responsible for common ailments like cold and cough. Here are some hygiene tips that you need to bear in mind if you live in a big city.
Wash your hands every time you come indoors - If you use public transport, chances are that you have come into contact with surfaces that were touched by several other people. Make sure that you wash your hands with soap.
Wash your socks - This is important not only for your personal health but it is also in general public interest. As you move around, your socks accumulate a lot of dust and bacteria.
Don’t rub your eyes - Rubbing your eyes with contaminated hands can transfer a lot of germs into them and cause eye infections.
Use a hand sanitiser- For times when you can’t wash your hands, carry a hand sanitising lotion with you. This becomes particularly important when you have to eat out in the middle of the day.
Carry tissues when commuting - Tissues are better than cloth handkerchiefs as the latter accumulate germs on them, leading to infections. Therefore, carrying wet tissues is a better idea as they are disposable.
Avoid touching your hair- The hair is one of the most exposed areas of the body. Avoid touching your hair to prevent transferring those germs on to your hands.
Cat and dog stretch:
Come on your fours while keeping your arms and knees apart. Ensure that your hands are in line with your knees, and your arms and thighs are perpendicular to the floor. Keeping a soft towel or cushion is under your knee is advisable if you have knee pain.
Now, keeping your arms straight, inhale and lift your chin up while you arch and depress your spine towards the floor. As you exhale, round your spine as you push yourself away from the floor, keeping your chin tucked close to your chest and pulling your naval inward. Keep your arms straight throughout the process.Do this 10 times while bringing your awareness to your spine as you practise.
Most people, at some point in their lives, must have experienced a pain in their head and must have termed it as ‘just a headache’. And usually many end up doing a self-medication assuming it to be due to stress, or tension or migraine. But ignoring certain pains, which might be indicators of serious disorders, may lead to adverse situations. One such disorder is known as brain aneurysm.
An aneurysm is basically a deformity in the blood vessels. It is an abnormal bulging out of the wall of a blood vessel. When an aneurysm occurs in a blood vessel of the brain, it is called a brain aneurysm or cerebral aneurysm. It would be genetic or found near the subarachnoid space.
Recognising a heart attack is the key to saving a life. As we all know, heart attacks happen when blood flow to heart muscles is blocked by plaque and blood clots. The heart muscles begin to die, causing chest pain. The symptoms to look for in a person who has just suffered a heart attack is suffocation, profuse sweating, vomiting sensation, gas formation and severe congestion in the chest. Other common symptoms are pain on the left side of the chest and in the left arm.In several cases, a person who has suffered a heart attack succumbs to death due to the ignorance on the part of the bystander. In many diabetic patients, heart attack can be a silent killer.
Any age (above the permissible 18 years, that is) is the perfect age to get married. There really is no upper limit. It was our parents’ or their parents’ generation or the one before that, which probably had the idea of setting a particular age as the appropriate one to getting married. Those times are gone now. If you’ve found the man of your dreams at age 25, then that’s the perfect time to get married. If not, it might be anything: 28, 30, 34…how does it really matter? The point is, when you are comfortable and ready to get in to a long commitment.
Many a times, the thought of wanting to be with someone, can lead to rushing into a relationship without thinking of the consequences. Take a look at some important tips to keep in mind when you want to take a relationship gradually forward. The idea of being in a relationship is so beautiful and rosy that we often tend to forget what is important and what is not in our lives. In case of rebound relationships, if you are just out of a breakup, and suddenly find someone who’s there to comfort you, you might get carried away.
If you are in love with your best friend and if you express your feelings to him, there are two outcomes that you will most likely face. First is that he will say that he feels the same (this is what you want to hear) and the second is that he might tell you that he does not have the same feelings for you. If by any chance latter comes true, there is a possibility that you might lose the friendship that you share with him.The ideal relationship advice to deal with such a situation will be to give yourself some time to ponder over the whole situation before making any move.

The SMS Influence
Now most of us are addicted to this form of messaging, which has totally removed real conversations and talking. Bags which cost as much as Cars
When Victoria Beckham announced this month that her fashion line was releasing an alligator-skin handbag costing nearly $30,000, the price tag might have seemed shocking, if not, perhaps, for the $34,000 alligator-skin backpack, the design outfit of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.Victoria Beckham only sells her bags on a made-to-order basis.
A Hong Kong design student's poignant tribute to Apple founder Steve Jobs became an internet hit on Thursday with its minimalist, touching symbolism and brought a job offer and a flood of commemorative merchandise using his design.
Nineteen-year-old Jonathan Mak, a student at Hong Kong's Polytechnic University School of Design, came up with the idea of incorporating Steve Jobs' silhouette into the bite of the Apple logo, symbolising both Jobs' departure and lingering presence at the core of the company.
The design spread like wildfire in cyberspace, drawing hundreds of thousands of posts, and even commemorative caps and T-shirts peddled on eBay featuring his design.Apple's co-founder Jobs, who created revolutionary products and reshaped the way the world approaches computing and personal communications, died on Wednesday at the age of 56.
Mak, who first created the logo after Jobs' stepped down as Apple's head in August, said it hadn't made much of a splash until he reposted it on Thursday.
"Originally, I was going to put a black modified logo against a white background," said the bespectacled Mak who paid tribute to Jobs at Hong Kong's Apple store.
"It just didn't feel sombre enough. I just wanted it to be a very quiet commemoration. It's just this quiet realisation that Apple is now missing a piece. It's just kind of implying his absence."
Sandeep Varma died last December, but his Facebook page received 100-odd wishes on May 17, his birthday. He still gets chats and posts, which is harsh on his dear ones.
Like Sandeep, there are many dead who live through their profiles on social networking sites raising the question ‘What should I do about my virtual life after death’.
Social networking profiles of deceased might even hurt their relatives if someone, who is not aware of their death, post something on their profile. But that is set to change now.
‘PassMyWill.com’ promises a solution and that too free of cost.
The line that says 'Will your passwords to your relatives if you pass away with PassMyWill.com' welcomes you. It keeps your passwords; If you pass away, it verifies your death and distribute your passwords to the ones that you have already assigned.
Upon registration with it, the website will send out emails to everyone on your list of ‘friends’ and ‘acquaintances’ if your account remains inactive for long periods.
The website will check your Facebook, Twitter and other accounts to see if you are active and if it finds otherwise it will send you an email. If you fail to respond early, it will send out emails to everyone on your virtual ‘will’.
The recipients of these mails will, however, need a key to unlock your account/s and you will have to give the key to whoever you want to allow access while you are still alive.
If there is a general impression that only people in developed countries use social networking sites extensively, they may be proved wrong.
Indonesia and India, the two developing countries, have been ranked second and third in the number of Facebook users.
According to International Telecommunication Union’s report 'Measuring the information society' released recently, the United States of America (USA) ranked first with 154,040,460 users followed by 39,568,620 Indonesians and 33,587,640 users in India.
Access to Internet through the mobile phone has become more affordable, the report reveals, since it allows less affluent people to gain access to cyberspace. They can recharge airtime to use the Internet whenever they have money, the report says.
The International Tele-communication Union (ITU) has also predicted that cheaper smartphones available in the market will have a greater impact on mobile internet use.
India has bagged 116th rank in the ICT development index with 2.01 points. The country has climbed up one rank this year, last year India was ranked at 117 position with 1.72 points. The Republic of Korea has topped the list with 8.40 points, while India is ranked 20th among Asia-Pacific countries.
According to K. Rajesh, a computer networking professional, the arrival of cheap mobile phones from China and Korea will cause the number of mobile phone subscribers to rise.
