Athirappally Waterfalls is located at the entrance to Sholayar ranges, the host town is Chalakudy, this waterfall is a popular picnic spot. Athirappally Falls is about 80 feet high and located in the forest area.Combined with the greenery, it infuses freshness into any tired soul. The Athirapally Falls join the Chalakkudy River after plummeting a drop of 80 feet. Affording to the onlookers, one of the most bewitching sights,in Kerala.
Vazhachal Falls is a rushing watercourse in the Chalakkudy River in the Thrissur district of Kerala, South India. It is located 36km from Chalakkudi and 5km from Athirappilly Falls. The riparian forests of the Chalakudy River have revealed the existence of a thick riparian vegetation of more than 10 metres width for a distance of 10.5 km downstream from Peringalkuth, covering an area of 58.5 hectares. Out of this, 26.4 hectares lie within the Vazachal area, including three large islands densely covered by riparian forests.Chalakkudi is the nearest railway station and Athirappilly is the nearest bus station.
Tourist attractions near to Athirappilly are Vazhachal Falls (5km away) and Thumboormuzhi Dam(12km away). Vazhachal Falls is a small waterfall on the Chalakkudy Puzha upstream Athirappilly falls. Tourism Department maintains a small park at Vazhachal. Thumboormuzhi Dam is an irrigation dam built on the Chalakkudy Puzha where a portion of the water from the river splits in to two canals namely Edathukara canal (left side canal) and Valathukara canal (right side canal). These canals are the backbone of the irrigation for the nearby villages. During summers almost whole of the river water will be directed towards the canals and the river bed will be visible. Apart from these attractions there are water theme parks near by Athirappilly namely Silver Storm and Dream World.
